Queer Theatre Kalamazoo and Face Off Theatre Company Presents

eLLe: This Lane Open

By Shawntai Brown

The lives of queer Kalamazoo women intertwine even more when Izabel and Naya, sworn enemies competing for Lane's attention, begin working at the same Kalamazoo grocery store. Their competition turns outward when their friends start carting their issues of loneliness through the aisles. Devon and Mia are searching for intimate connections while Carrie and Lane are determined to remain solitary.

Face Off Theatre Company aims to present audiences with fresh and innovative pieces of drama, as well as, classic works that are inspirational, entertaining, and thought provoking. We aim to create transcendent theatre art that explores the complexity and richness of the black experience and encourages cross cultural dialogue that illuminates and expands our understanding of the universal human experience.

She writes, “There’s a constant argument and assessment about how to do it right. One writer is more political and wants to take chances with form – the other is pragmatic and wants to please the powers-that-be.”
